Congratulations to LA Kings former first round draft pick Thomas Hickey for netting his first NHL goal last night. It’s been a long road for him. Here’s a photo of Hickey with his game puck. And here’s what he had to say after the game.

The Hockey News

New York Islanders rookie defenceman Thomas Hickey couldn’t have scripted his first NHL goal any better. The 23-year-old scored at 3:12 of overtime Thursday to complete the Islanders’ 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Montreal Canadiens.

“Coming in today, this rink with all that history up in the rafters, I got goose bumps right away. It’s a special place to score in overtime, and to get the win here, I couldn’t be happier,” said Hickey, the fourth overall pick in 2007 by the Los Angeles Kings, who was picked up off waivers by the Islanders during training camp.

Former King Matt Moulson was big for the Islanders too.

NEWSDAY

Matt Moulson got the Islanders on the board with a power-play goal 34 seconds into the second, and his second goal of the period, also on the power play, pulled the Isles within 3-2 after 40 minutes.

And finally, here’s a bit of Islanders trivia for you before the video.

LIGHTHOUSE HOCKEY

Hickey is the first Islanders to score his first NHL goal in overtime since Radek Martinek in 2001, and the Islanders’ 5-3-1 road record matches their second best road record through 9 games in the past 25 years.
