With just 14 games left in the season, the Monarchs find themselves in 10th place, three points out of a playoff spot. That might not sound so bad, but losing 3 of their last 4 and 2 of 3 over the weekend does not exactly give hope to the Manchester faithful, especially since their top goal scorer is still 2,000 miles away in Los Angeles. Below are some quotes and highlights from the Manchester Monarchs.

From Friday’s win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers:

“I thought our guys played hard all game,” said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. “We had a sluggish start but got out in front and then we weathered the storm by Bridgeport. They tied it up and then we had a nice goal by (Nick) Deslauriers which proved to be the difference. Martin Jones had another stellar game for us between the pipes.” Click here for more…

Highlights

From Saturday’s loss to 8th place Connecticut Whale:

“We weren’t ready to pay tonight,” said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. “That falls on my shoulder. Obviously, you need to get these guys to e more focused and ready to battle. It’s important we understand that there needs to be greater sense of urgency and desperation this late in the season. Taking shifts off and lack of focus was evident from players logging big minutes. If you work hard, more times than not you get rewarded. It’s no secret. Connecticut was more determined to fight for loose pucks early on. When we finally decided to play, we had great energy and scoring chances. That’s what we want in terms of compete level.” Click here for more…

From Sunday’s loss to 2nd place Providence Bruins:

“We actually played fairly well this afternoon,” said Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris. “The result wasn’t great but I felt we competed a lot harder and tried to execute the details of the game. A couple of defensive errors proved costly and Hutchinson was sharp in net for Providence. We’ll need to bounce back quickly for Wednesday’s game in Springfield.” Click here for more…
