The Kings AHL affiliate and farm club, the Manchester Monarchs, still lead the Eastern conference despite losing multiple players to injury as well as to the Kings as their starting goaltender, Martin Jones and top line of Linden Vey, Tanner Pearson and Tyler Toffoli were all called up to the parent club as you likely already know.
With so many bodies out, the Monarchs have managed to hold their own. But over the past two days, the Monarchs have finally decided to add some players to help bolster the roster. Mind you, the players added are not Kings prospects. They, and many others on the team, are strictly the property of the Monarchs.
Like the players listed below, many on the Monarchs are playing under a PTO or Professional Tryout Agreement. Often, when players who were out return to the club, the PTO players are released. I suspect this will happen to one or all of the newly signed players at one point or another.
This from the Manchester Monarchs yesterday…
The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed right wing A.J. Gale to a professional tryout agreement, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.
Gale, 26, has collected 17 points (5-12=17) and 12 penalty minutes in 13 games with the Central Hockey League’s Denver Cutthroats this season. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound native of Nanaimo, British Columbia, made his American Hockey League debut with the Lake Erie Monsters on February 21, 2013. He was held scoreless in four games with the Monsters last season. Gale led the Cutthroats with 46 goals and 84 points (46-38=84) in 64 games during the 2012-13 season.
And this from today…
The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed defenseman Cameron Burt and center Mike Ullrich to professional tryout agreements, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.
Burt, 26, collected nine points (2-7=9) and 10 penalty minutes in 14 games with the ECHL’s Ontario Reign this season. His nine points rank third on the Reign and lead the team’s defensemen. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound native of Detroit, Michigan, led Reign defensemen with 38 points (2-36=38) during the 2012-13 season. A 2012 graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, Burt recorded 138 points (43-95=138) and 186 penalty minutes in 147 games from 2008-12.
Ullrich, 27, registered 14 points (4-10=14) and seven penalty minutes in 14 games with the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears this season. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound native of Banff, Alberta, split the 2012-13 season between the Central Hockey League’s Tulsa Oilers and the ECHL’s Trenton Titans. Ullrich collected 29 points (15-14=29) and 26 penalty minutes in 26 games with the Titans, and 19 points (7-12=19) and 36 penalty minutes in 29 games with the Oilers.
At least one Kings blogger wants in on the action…
I’m a little upset that the Manchester Monarchs haven’t offered me a PTO yet.
